Digital Desk: According to Reuters, Russia on Tuesday, added social networking giant Meta to its list of terrorist and extremist organisations.

Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have been blocked by the Russian government in March. A Moscow court had also charged the Mark Zuckerberg-owned social media site with supporting extremism by enabling Ukrainian users to publish material encouraging violence against Russians.

According to Reuters, Meta's lawyer then denied the claims, telling the court that the organisation had never engaged in extremist activity and was opposed to Russophobia.

Since Russia started an all-out invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the Kremlin has increased its grip over social media. It has barred access to Western social media platforms, accusing them of inciting violence against Russians. In retaliation, European tech companies have demonetized and even blacklisted Russian state-sponsored media.

The fighting between Russian and Ukrainian troops has entered its ninth month, with no conclusion in sight. Russia targeted the central Ukrainian province of Dnipropetrovsk on Tuesday, causing "serious" damage to energy facilities, according to the area's leader, on the second day of huge missile salvos across Ukraine.

"Russian missiles were fired at energy facilities in the areas of Pavlograd and Kamian. There is widespread devastation. Many communities are still without power "The regional governor, Valentin Reznichenko, stated on social media. This comes only one day after Russian military launched the heaviest airstrike on Ukraine since the conflict began.
