Digital Desk: In the wee hours of Thursday, four masked men unleashed gunfire in Ponnakal village, Addakula mandal of Mahabubnagar district, Telangana, killing over twenty stray dogs and gravely injuring several more. The rural residents are terrified after the miscreants' attack.
Adulapuram Goutham, an activist for the Stray Animal Foundation of India, reportedly told ANI, "The locals say that after midnight, a few masked men entered the car and shot the dogs with a gun. Approximately twenty to twenty-five canines perished in the incident, while numerous others sustained injuries. Regarding this occurrence, we have lodged a report with the police."
On Thursday, it was alleged that men wearing masks and driving a car roamed around the streets, shooting the dogs without regard for who or what. Several dogs lost their lives in the attack, while a few more had serious injuries. In Ponnakal village, some 20 to 25 dogs were found dead.
Police and veterinary personnel arrived at the scene to evaluate the situation and offer required aid based on the information. Additionally, the Addakula SSI Srinivasulu and the Bhutpur CI Ramakrishna paid a visit to the location.
It was a targeted attack, according to preliminary investigations, which also raised concerns about the motivations behind the acts of animal abuse. Furthermore, a search for the miscreants has been initiated by the authorities.
A village panchayat leader's allegation led the police to file a case under section 429 of the Indian Penal Code as well as other provisions of the Arms Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
