COCOMI spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba condemned the violence and emphasized the need for the state government to take measures to prevent further escalation of tension. Although suggested that the announcement by Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh regarding the identification and deportation of illegal immigrants might have incited the destruction of related documents by those affected.

The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police offices in Churachandpur were set on fire by the unnamed miscreants, who also destroyed the Indian National Flag from government buildings. Manipur police sources state that after Head Constable Siamlalpaul was suspended for being purportedly seen in a viral video with armed people and local volunteers, a mob attempted to attack the Churachandpur SP office.
