Digital Desk: A major eviction drive has been announced at Bokolia Ghat in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, with authorities set to deploy bulldozers in the coming hours. Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Chief Tuliram Ronghang has declared this to be the largest eviction operation in the region, aimed at clearing encroachments by non- Karbi and illegal settlers from VGR-PGR land.

The large-scale eviction will be carried out on 20th  January  and 21st January  across nearly 350 bighas of land under the Irrigation Department at Bokolia Ghat. The district administration has issued multiple public announcements through loudspeakers, asking occupants to vacate the encroached land voluntarily.

Amid fear and uncertainty, hundreds of families have already begun relocating, carrying whatever belongings they can. Notably, around 2,159 families from various communities have been living on the land for several years. The area also houses religious structures, including temples, mosques, and other places of worship.
