Digital Desk: In a major decision aimed at widening employment opportunities for the youth of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,on 18th January , announced a revision of the age eligibility criteria for Assam Police recruitment. The announcement was made during a Facebook Live address and is expected to benefit thousands of aspirants across the state who were earlier rendered ineligible due to age constraints.
According to the Chief Minister, the upper age limit for applying to the Assam Police has now been increased to 26 years, while the minimum age requirement will remain unchanged at 18 years. The revised age criteria will be applicable to upcoming recruitment drives, offering a broader window for young candidates aspiring to join the state’s police force.
CM Sarma stated that the decision was taken after carefully considering long-standing demands from job aspirants, especially those who missed earlier opportunities due to age restrictions. He emphasized that the move reflects the government’s commitment to creating more employment avenues and ensuring inclusive growth for the youth of Assam.
The Chief Minister also noted that the age relaxation is part of the government’s larger effort to strengthen the Assam Police by attracting a larger, more diverse, and capable pool of candidates. By expanding eligibility, the state aims to enhance manpower and improve policing standards.
