Employees at the Numaligarh Refinery rushed out of the gates in droves after the fire, according to site sources.

Digital Desk: On Monday, a massive fire broke out at the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), followed by a loud explosion.

According to accounts, the fire at the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam's Golaghat district was followed by an explosion, which shook the hydrocracker facility.

The cause of the huge fire has yet to be determined. Meanwhile, many fire trucks have been dispatched to the scene, and efforts are underway to bring the flames under control.

Furthermore, the explosion was so powerful that shockwaves could be felt up to seven kilometres distant from the Numaligarh Refinery.

"We heard a sudden explosion followed by smoke, and the sky around us turned yellow," a witness at the Numaligarh Refinery fire stated. We raced to the spot as soon as we could because we were locals. We arrived to find flames bursting from within. We discovered that a fire had broken out at the Hydrocracker plant after inquiring around."

"As far as we know, there were several people inside at the time of the incident." "We hope no fatalities are reported as a result of the incident and that the fire is brought under control as soon as possible," he added.

Meanwhile, an ambulance was observed driving around campus, with the possibility of injury or death not ruled out. However, there has been no formal confirmation as of yet.

According to sources at the Numaligarh Refinery, the fire started due to a mechanical problem at the connection where the nitrogen supply connects to the Hydrocracker unit.

According to new reports from the scene, the fire has been brought under control following an hour-long pause.
