Digital Desk: The horrific attack on tribal women in Manipur on May 4 was denounced at a large protest rally organised on Tuesday at Haflong in Assam's Dima Hasao.

Diverse populations from the area took part in the rally, which was organised by the Dima Hasao Joint Women's Organisation. The protesters marched along the main thoroughfares, beginning at Lalfield and continuing to Synod Rotary and Council Rotary before gathering in front of the DC office.

A memorandum was handed to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the protest through the DC, along with copies given to the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the DC.

The horrifying incident in which two tribal women were paraded naked in public, gang-raped, and was brutally assaulted by a mob was met with astonishment, grief, and outrage by the protesters. Tragically, a victim's brother, a teenager, was also killed while attempting to defend his sister.

The incident brought to light the widespread existential anxiety that women in Manipur and the country experience as a result of the long-running dispute. The group claimed that even when such incidents are recorded, authorities infrequently take proper action against the culprits.

The National Commissioner for Women, the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, the Central and State governments, and the Dima Hasao Joint Women's Organisation have all been urged to take swift action against those responsible for the heinous conduct.

To stop future acts of cruelty and inhumanity against women, they demanded the worst punishment possible. The rally intended to demand justice for the victims and their families and put an end to such heinous crimes in society.
