The goal of the authorities is to stop illicit operations like the smuggling of cattle, illegal products, cigarettes, dry fish, betel nuts, and betel leaves.

Digital Desk: A night curfew has been imposed along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills District. Citing security concerns and the need to stop illicit cross-border activity, the District Magistrate issued the order in accordance with Section 163 BNSS.

The curfew will encompass an area up to 200 meters from the Zero Line (international border) and will be in effect every day from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am. People who plan to cross the international border or enter Indian territory are not allowed to move during these hours.

Additionally prohibited under the order are unauthorized processions and unlawful gatherings of five or more people near the border. It is highly banned to carry weapons or other potentially dangerous objects like sticks, rods, or stones.

The goal of the authorities is to stop illicit operations like the smuggling of cattle, illegal products, cigarettes, dry fish, betel nuts, and betel leaves. The decision was made in reaction to the current state of affairs in Bangladesh and the possibility of unauthorized individuals, such as smugglers and members of banned militant organizations, traveling over international borders.

Concerns were raised by authorities regarding the East Khasi Hills' unfenced border areas, which are open to invasion by unauthorized immigrants and organized crime gangs that may have linkages to armed rebel groups and anti-national elements.

The District Magistrate emphasized that these steps are required to keep the district, the state, and the nation peaceful and quiet. The directive is now in effect and will stay that way until further notice.
