Shillong: The Education Department has recommended the High-Powered Committee (HPC) chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to reopen schools and colleges from 1 September.

The reopening will be decided once HPC approves the proposal.

Classes from 9 to 12 in both rural and urban areas have been recommended for the opening.

For classes 6 to 8 only normal visits will be allowed in the urban areas while normal classes will be allowed in the urban areas.

For classes 1 to 5 only online classes will continue in the urban areas while only school visits will be allowed in the rural areas.

The school and colleges were closed when the second wave of Covid-19 hit the country earlier this year.
