Lailapur: The Mizoram government has stopped the construction of the bridge which was going on in Kachurtal area in Hailakandi along the Assam-Mizoram border.

The decision comes after The Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla held a video conference with both the state officials.

Assam police have also returned the construction materials to Mizoram that were seized from the location two days back.

Gaurav Upadhyay, Superintendent of Police of Hailakandi District said, “ To calm down the tension between both the states we have returned the construction materials that were lying in Assam Territory. The material was handed over to the people of Mizoram in Bairabi town inside Mizoram by a team of Assam Police and have told them to use the construction materials on their land and not on Assam land which is illegal.”

A case of ‘theft’ was filed on Saturday by Deputy Commissioner of Kolasib in Bairabi Police Station in Mizoram against Assam Police.

A letter was also written by him to his Hailakandi counterpart where he claimed that Assam police entered Mizoram territory near Bairabi Town and allegedly stole some of the construction material which included iron rods from the construction area of the bridge.

After the construction material was returned, Vanlalfaka Rafte, Superintendent of Police of Kolasib district said that no further legal proceeding or probe will be taken against Assam Police as they have returned the construction materials.
