Digital Desk: The Manipur government plans on sending Meiteis from Mizoram, one of the two communities at odds with the Kukis, from Aizawl. This comes after a group of ex-militants in Mizoram requested that the Meiteis return to their native state for their "own safety."

According to the organisation, there is "anger among Mizo youths" over the event on May 4 in which two women were disrobed, paraded naked, and sexually assaulted by a gang of men, a video of which appeared on Wednesday, provoking widespread indignation.

The Manipur government intends to airlift people from Mizoram by special ATR aircraft between Aizawl and Imphal and Aizawl and Silchar.

According to reports, the Mizoram Police have increased security measures to protect the safety of Meiteis in Aizawl. Vety College in Selesih, Mizoram University in Tanhril, RIPANS in Zemabawk, and ZMC in Falkawn have all increased security.

"In anticipation of potential tensions that could jeopardise the security of Meiteis living in Aizawl as a result of public outrage over the recent viral video of two tribal Kuki - Zo brutally assaulted in Manipur." "Security arrangements are being made to ensure Meitei's safety in Aizawl," the letter stated.

Though the government intends to airlift Meiteis, the exact date on which the evacuation will begin is unknown. Mizoram is home to a few thousand Meiteis, the majority of whom are from Manipur and south Assam.
