Digital Desk: An arson incident at environmentalist Padma Shri Jadav Payeng's Molai Kathoni (Molai Forest) on Sunday afternoon has sparked widespread outrage.
The newly developed forest area, named Molai Kathoni 2.0 is situated on a sandbar of the Brahmaputra river.
This initiative was launched in 2022 by Jadav Payeng's daughter, Munmi Payeng, alongside a team of approximately 70 members, as part of a plantation drive aimed at preserving the natural environment and fostering forest growth.
On Sunday, however, miscreants deliberately set fire to the area, directly targeting the ongoing conservation initiative.
The fire is feared to have caused significant damage to the plants and the ecosystem.
The exact motive behind this act of arson remains unclear.
