Digital Desk: Lalrinliana Sailo, Mizoram Assembly Speaker and MNF leader resigned as a legislator on Wednesday, saying he would join the BJP "to usher in development" in the state. 

Sailo, who won the Chalfilh seat in the 2018 assembly elections, was denied a ticket for the 2023 election, which will be held in November.

According to party insiders, he will be accepted into the BJP on Thursday.

''Mizoram's financial situation is not in excellent shape... After delivering his resignation to Deputy Assembly Speaker H Lalbiakzauva, Sailo informed reporters, "I will join the party to usher in development in my state." he added.

The 40-member Mizoram Assembly is scheduled to be chosen in a single round of voting on November 7, and the results will be tallied on December 3.
