Digital Desk: Mizoram Chief Minister and President of the Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoramthanga, has officially thrown his hat in the ring for the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for November 7. The veteran 79-year-old Mizo politician is vying for a fourth term as the Chief Minister, a move that could see him become the longest-serving Chief Minister in Mizoram's history.
Zoramthanga filed his nomination papers from the Aizawl East constituency amid high expectations from his party. In the 2018 elections, the MNF secured 27 seats with 38.4 percent of the votes, allowing Zoramthanga to assume the Chief Minister's role for the third time after a ten-year hiatus. He previously led two consecutive MNF governments from 1998 to 2008, before the two terms of Congress-led leadership under Lal Thanhawla.
The MNF is contesting in all 40 Assembly seats as the state gears up for the polls on November 7. The electorate will eagerly await the results, with vote counting set to take place on December 3.
