Five persons reportedly died and 21 others were injured when a jeep carrying them to an election rally in Meghalaya...

Digital Desk: On Monday, five individuals were killed and 21 were injured when a jeep carrying them to a Trinamool rally in Meghalaya's North Garo Hills crashed.

The TMC rally took place in Bolmedang before the Assembly elections.

North Garo Hills police chief Shailendra Bamaniya said several persons were severely wounded and were taken to Assam's Goalpara hospital for treatment. 

As reported by the police, the passengers in the vehicle were on their way to Adoggre village to attend an electoral rally where former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma was to address the crowd.

An investigation into the cause of the accident has been initiated.
