Shami is one of 26 athletes from India to get the Arjuna Award for outstanding achievement in 2023. 

Digital Desk: The legendary Indian bowler Mohammed Shami is set to win the Arjuna Award for his exceptional cricket performance. The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has announced the National Sports Awards 2023 today. At a specially arranged event at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 9, 2024, he will receive the award from the President of India together with the other recipients. 

Shami is one of 26 athletes from India to get the Arjuna Award for outstanding achievement in 2023. Award winners of the Arjuna Award are those who performed exceptionally over the four previous years and have shown leadership, sportsmanship, and discipline.

The 33-year-old had a tremendous tournament in the 2023 ODI World Cup, when India placed second losing to Australia in the final match. In just seven matches, he claimed 24 wickets, making him the World Cup's top wicket-taker.
