The ED added that Arpita hadn't earlier been informed that there was cash in her second apartment also. 

Digital Desk: The inmate friend of arrested Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, Arpita Mukherjee, Thursday, told the Enforcement Directorate that the money recovered from her second flat belongs to Chatterjee.

Arpita's statement comes on the day the probe agency recovered another Rs 28 crore in cash and more than 5 kg of gold from her second apartment on the day after recovering Rs 21 crore from her first apartment. Officials reported that a huge sum of money was found in the toilet.

ED sources informed us that the recovered money belongs to Partha Chatterjee, and Arpita has admitted that her flat was used to store his money. She claimed that Partha used to visit the flat, and he was the only one who knew about it, and that she had no idea such a large amount was stored there.

The ED added that Arpita hadn't earlier been informed that there was cash in her second apartment also. "However, after getting the property information, we entered the apartment and discovered cash in crores and gold worth 5 kg."

The notes, neatly packed in bundles of Rs 20 lakh for Rs 500 notes and Rs 50 lakh each for Rs 2,000 notes, are included in the recovered Rs 27.9 crore. Three gold bricks weighing one kilogramme each, six Kangan (bangles) weighing 500 grammes each, and a gold pen are also included in the 4.31 crore rupees worth of gold and jewellery.
