Pustules were reportedly found on the Italian greyhound's stomach by the couple...

Digital Desk: A gay French couple's dog that shared a bed with them developed monkeypox. This is the first case of a virus that spreads from people to pets.

The virus is believed to have been acquired by the two Parisians, aged 44 and 27, through sexual contact with other males while in a non-monogamous relationship.

Pustules were reportedly found on the Italian greyhound's stomach by the couple.

Later, a PCR test confirmed that the animal had the virus.

According to a report in the medical journal The Lancet, the dog shared a bed with the two males and may have licked one or both of them before licking itself.

Both guys have developed serious ulcers and rashes since receiving confirmation of their illnesses in June. On the other hand, the dog started showing signs of the sickness twelve days later.

Officials have encouraged at-risk or affected people to be quarantined away from their pets in order to reduce the chance of transmission.

The World Health Organization has declared the current monkeypox outbreak a rising international emergency.
