Digital Desk: Mrigen Sarania is re elected as the Mayor of GMC . The BJP and its ally, the AGP, won 58 seats out of 60 wards in the GMC Elections 2022. Each party, the AAP and the AJP, received a seat.

Mrigen Sarania, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was re-elected Mayor of Guwahati Municipal Corporation on Tuesday (GMC). Sarania, a three-term councillor, will serve as a Mayor of GMC for the second time (from 2016 to 2018). Meanwhile, according to reports, the BJP's Smita Roy, who won Ward No. 22, will be the Deputy Mayor.

The BJP and its allies, the AGP, swept the GMC elections in 2022, capturing 58 of the 60 wards. Each of the AAP and the AJP won a seat.

Masuma Begum, an AAP candidate, won Ward 42, while Hukum Chand Ali, an AJP candidate, defeated the BJP candidates in Ward 1. The main opposition Congress, on the other hand, was unable to register for the GMC elections this time.

After a nine-year hiatus, elections for GMC's 60 wards were held on April 22. The elections were held for 57 wards, however, because three BJP candidates were elected unopposed.
