Maurya, a former sarpanch of Nanpur village, about 400 kilometres from Bhopal, told PTI that he was engaged to his first partner in 2003 and that his two other partners had been living with him for the past 15 years.

According to villagers, Maurya married Naanbai, Mela, and Sakri in the same mandap for three days in accordance with tribal norms, with festivity featuring the playing of the 'dhol' and'maandal,' a tribal drum.
