CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni successfully underwent left knee surgery in a Mumbai hospital on Thursday...

Digital Desk: Just a few days after lifting the IPL trophy, CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni successfully underwent left knee surgery in a Mumbai hospital on Thursday.

Dhoni led the Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL victory on Monday and later travelled to Mumbai from Ahmedabad to consult with renowned sports orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who is also on the BCCI medical panel and had treated Rishabh Pant.

"Yes, Dhoni underwent successful knee surgery on Thursday at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai. He is doing well, and the procedure was performed early this morning. I don't have any details. I have yet to receive all of the details regarding the nature of the surgery and other things," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said to PTI.

Reportedly, Dhoni will be discharged soon and will start his rehabilitation after a few days of rest.

Dhoni had played the entire season with heavy strapping on his left knee and looked uneasy while running between the wickets.

After leading CSK to its fifth IPL trophy with a four-wicket triumph over Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday, Dhoni said he would return for at least one more season for the fans if his body allowed him to do so.

"Circumstantially, this is the ideal time to make my retirement announcement. But with the amount of love I've received all over, the easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing would be to work hard for nine months and try to play another IPL," Dhoni stated after the final.

Notably, Dhoni has not officially announced his retirement from the IPL yet, but he has hinted at returning to the pitch next year.
