Digital Desk: In a shocking incident, a Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) from Guwahati was detained by the Nalbari Police on Friday night after his fiancé filed a complaint accusing him of cheating her.
The SDO, identified as Samiran Das was assigned to the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department in Hengrabari, Guwahati.
According to authorities, his fiancé, who lives in Nalbari, filed a complaint against him at the Nalbari Sadar Police Station stating that he cheated on her.
Initial reports state that after the accused was assigned to Nalbari, he got engaged to the complainant and later applied for a legal court marriage. However, the victim said that Samiran requested an Rs. 1 crore dowry from his fiancé after filing for the legal marriage.
The victim gave him a amount of Rs. 2 lakh after which she began to realize that he was ignoring her and had secretly taken a transfer from Nalbari to Guwahati. She then lodged a complaint at the Nalbari Sadar Police Station.
He was detained by Nalbari Police in Guwahati based on the filed complaint and will be produced before the court for custody.
