Digital Desk: In an unusual incident, an 11-day-old newborn girl was found buried on Saturday morning in the Bajali area of Assam, close to the bank of the Bisannala River.
The incident was reported at Dubi Malipara locality in the district.
The infant's notorious father allegedly tried to sell her newborn daughter for Rs 4 lakh in cash, but his evil plans were prevented by the involvement of his relatives.
According to sources, the accused father, Niranjan Malakar, allegedly decided to kill and bury his daughter as a result.
Niranjan is currently at large.
Meanwhile, the Bajali police arrived at the scene of the crime in the presence of the magistrate and exhumed the baby's body near to the Bisannala River's bank, which is claimed to be around one kilometre from his home.
Two people have been taken into custody by the police for questioning in connection with the case.
It's interesting to note that the incident has also brought to light the name of a senior Pathshala doctor.
In a statement to the media, Niranjan Malakar's brother-in-law said, "Today, between 5.30 and 6 am, I received a call from Niranjan informing us that his baby daughter is dead. We eventually reached here, but Niranjan was missing when we got there. Along with a doctor, my sister's husband was attempting to sell the newborn. We are not aware of the dealing, thus I request that the police fully investigate this matter."
