The family has been anxiously awaiting Sidhu's return from prison, according to Sidhu's son Karan Sidhu, who spoke to the media on Saturday at his home.

Digital Desk: Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu will be released on Saturday after almost ten months in Patiala's central jail.

When the 59-year-old former cricket player was released, several Congress leaders and fans gathered outside the prison to give him a hearty welcome and chant "Navjot Sidhu zindabad."

To greet the former cricketer-turned-politician, his followers outside the jail have also organised "Dhol" players.

The family has been anxiously awaiting Sidhu's return from prison, according to Sidhu's son Karan Sidhu, who spoke to the media on Saturday at his home.

He claimed that despite the difficult experience the family had been through, they were now relieved to see him coming out of jail.

To greet him, Sidhu's supporters put up numerous posters and hoardings of him throughout Patiala city.

One of Sidhu's followers standing outside the jail said that party members were overjoyed about his release.

The people of Punjab, according to Congress leader and former Legislator Navtej Singh Cheema, are anxiously awaiting Sidhu's release from prison.

The former state Congress leader was imprisoned on May 20 of last year after being given a one-year severe prison term by the Supreme Court for the 1988 road rage death of Gurnam Singh, 65, who was sentenced to death.

According to Sidhu's lawyer HPS Varma, the early release was made possible by Sidhu's following the rules and behaving well while imprisoned.
