Digital Desk: The sale of Pani Puri has been prohibited in Nepal’s Lalitpur Metropolitan City after the cholera cases have increased in the Kathmandu Valley. At least 12 people have tested positive for cholera in the city.

The Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) on Saturday decided to outlaw the sale and distribution of Pani Puri throughout the city after cholera bacteria were found in the water used to manufacture it.

According to Municipal Police Chief Sitaram Hachethu, the metropolis has taken internal measures to forbid the sale of panipuri in busy cities and in gateway areas in order to stop the spread of cholera in the Valley.

Meanwhile,  Chumanlal Dash, the director of the Health Ministry's Epidemiology and Disease Control Division said that there have been five cholera cases discovered in the Kathmandu Metropolis and one case each in Chandragiri and Budhanilkantha Municipalities.

As per the data of the Ministry of Health and Population, in the Kathmandu Valley, seven more persons have tested positive for cholera, increasing the total number of cholera patients there to 12.

As cholera and other water-borne illnesses are on the rise, especially during the summer and wet months, the Ministry of Health and Population has urged the public to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest hospital if they exhibit any cholera symptoms. They have also urged everyone to exercise caution and alertness.

Notably, those who are infected are being actively treated at Teku's Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital.
