Guwahati: The Assam government has decided to provide National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) chief Ranjan Daimary a VIP cell facility in Chirang instead of his present room at 10 APBn headquarter in Kahilipara, Guwahati.

While speaking to the media, Assam Minister of Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, said, "After discussing the matter with the concerned authority, the government has decided to provide a home-like environment to Ranjan Daimary in Chirang."
"It has no connection with Daimary release," added Brahma.

Bodoland Guest House at Kajalgaon, Chirang, will be converted to Daimary's new VIP prison.

The report said it would be equipped with a refrigerator, air-condition, Television set, etc.

Moreover, the boundaries of the guest house were heightened up to 16 feet with barbed wires and metal roofing sheets.

Workers engaged in the construction work stated that they are working till 2 am to complete the VIP prison for Daimary.

On August 2, former members of NDFB demanded the release or shifting of Daimary from Kahilipara, saying that the government has provided a poor facility to Daimary.

NDFB chief Ranjan Daimary, sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment by the government, was the mastermind behind the serial bomb blast in Guwahati on October 30, 2008, which killed over a hundred lives and injured more than four hundred people.

In April 2021, Daimary's appeal for bail has been rejected by the Gauhati High Court.
Ranjan Daimary was granted interim bail for about a month on January 24, 2020, to participate in Peace Talks in New Delhi for the Bodo Accord.
