Today, a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the northern coast of Japan near Miyako prompting authorities to issue a tsunami warning. Approximately 40 minutes after the quake, a tsunami wave measuring around 80 centimetres (31 inches) was recorded at a port in Kuji, located in Iwate Prefecture. Government continue to monitor the situation closely, urging residents in coastal areas to remain alert and follow safety advisories.
