Digital Desk: The Mayor of Guwahati, Shri Mrigen Sarania , conducted an on-ground inspection of areas affected by severe artificial flooding across the city. The Guwahati Municial Corporation have initiated large-scale efforts to drain out water from inundated localities, with officials stating that water is now being cleared at a faster pace compared to previous instances. Pumping operations are underway to evacuate water from low-lying areas.
In Rajgarh area, repair work has been taken up on the Bharalu guard wall, which suffered damage amid the heavy flow of water. Civic authorities also highlighted that the Guwahati Municipal Corporation has cleaned 668 drains across the city, while the Public Works Department (PWD) has undertaken cleaning work of 214 drains. Construction of slabs over drains is also in progress to improve infrastructure.
In Maligaon, excessive rainfall reportedly caused strong water currents that dislodged drain slabs, contributing to flooding in the area. Allegations have also emerged against some footpath vendors for removing slabs and dumping waste into drains, worsening the situation.
Meanwhile, in Rajgarh, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) carried out rescue operations using rubber boats to assist stranded pedestrians.
The administration continues to monitor the situation closely as efforts are intensified to restore normalcy in the flood-affected areas.
