A senior NHAI official has verified that the revised user fees will become effective from June 3, 2024.

Digital Desk: Commencing Monday, drivers traversing expressways will encounter heightened toll charges as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has elected to increment fees nationwide by an average of 5 percent. Initially slated for April 1, the annual modification of highway user fees, anticipated to hover around an average of 5 percent, was postponed due to the Lok Sabha elections.

A senior NHAI official has verified that the revised user fees will become effective from June 3, 2024. This adjustment in toll charges is a customary annual procedure, synchronizing the rates with alterations in the wholesale price index (CPI)-based inflation.

The national highway network comprises roughly 855 user fee plazas, where toll charges are stipulated in accordance with the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. Among these, approximately 675 plazas receive funding from the public, while 180 are under the management of concessionaires.
