Mumbai: The Maharashtra Government has decided to continue with its covid restrictions irrespective of indices like weekly positivity rate and hospital beds availability to prevent the spread of the more dangerous Delta Plus Covid variant.

"Given that the virus causing Covid is undergoing mutations in various geographies and that these mutations are displaying more transmissibility and potential reductions in monoclonal antibody response, a State Level Trigger mandating all the administrative units, irrespective of values of the indices of weekly positivity rate and oxygen bed occupancy percentage to remain at a level not below 3 is to be in operation till withdrawn by specific order of SDMA," the order reads.

Restaurants, gyms, salons, spas can remain open under level 3 restrictions till 4 pm with 50 percent occupancy. While private offices will see the presence of 50 percent work force and 50 persons only at weddings and other social events. Movie theatres will continue to remain shut.

Delta Plus Variant, a variant that has been a cause of concern in India, transmits and binds to receptors of the lung cells, potentially mutating into a further fatal cell type which ultimately reduces in monoclonal antibody response, has been detected in some Maharashtra districts with one death reported of the variant.
