Digital Desk: African cheetah 'Gamini' has proven to be a proud mother, delighting conservationists with the birth of six cubs at the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur district. This announcement, made by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, corrected earlier reports that stated she had given birth to five cubs.

Minister Yadav took to his official platform to share the news, expressing boundless joy over Gamini's expanding family. He emphasized the significance of this event, highlighting that it sets a record for a first-time cheetah mother. Accompanying his announcement were visuals of Gamini proudly nurturing her six adorable cubs.

With the arrival of these new cubs, the cheetah population at Kuno National Park has risen to 27, a positive development for the ambitious cheetah reintroduction project. This initiative aims to revive the population of these majestic creatures in their native habitat.

However, the journey has not been without challenges. Despite previous births, the survival rate has been variable, with only a fraction of the cubs reaching adulthood. Nevertheless, the relentless efforts of conservationists continue to bolster the cheetah population, with additional cheetahs being brought in from both Namibia and South Africa to bolster genetic diversity.

The birth of Gamini's cubs marks another step forward in the conservation efforts at Kuno National Park, underscoring the importance of sustained dedication to protecting these endangered species. Despite setbacks, each new addition to the cheetah family brings hope for a brighter future for these magnificent animals.
