An alleged firing incident involving Forest Department personnel near Numaligarh has left three youths injured, prompting an ongoing investigation as conflicting accounts of the events have emerged. The incident, which took place on Friday night in the Shyamraipur-Sundarpur area along the Daigruang River, has led to separate First Information Reports (FIRs) being lodged by both parties at Bogijan Police Station.
The injured individuals have been identified as Intajul Ahmed, Bikash Orang, and Bishnu Sahu. All three are currently receiving treatment at Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital in Golaghat for bullet wounds sustained to their hands, back, and legs respectively. Forest officials, in turn, have reported that one of their personnel, Jayanta Bora, also sustained injuries during what they allege was stone pelting at the scene.
The Forest Department stated that their personnel were conducting an operation targeting alleged illegal sand mining in the area when the confrontation occurred. However, the sequence of events leading to the injuries remains disputed. According to Intajul Ahmed, he had previously submitted a written complaint to the Golaghat Forest Division on Thursday, highlighting concerns about illegal sand mining activities.
As part of the ongoing probe, police on Saturday seized the firearm allegedly used in the incident, along with two live rounds, from the Bokial Range Forest Office. Authorities are now tasked with sifting through the divergent claims to establish a clear picture of what transpired during the night operation. The investigation seeks to determine the circumstances under which the youths were injured and to clarify the actions taken by all involved parties.
