Digital Desk: With three more people succumbing to their injuries, the official death toll in Odisha's triple train accident on Monday climbed to 278. The Indian Railways said that the June 2 Balasore train tragedy killed 278 persons and injured 1,100 people. The death toll had earlier been put at 288, but the Odisha government revised it to 275 on Sunday, saying that a few bodies had been counted twice.

Khurda Road Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rinkesh Ray stated that 177 of the 278 bodies have been identified, with 101 still unidentified, and that the unclaimed bodies have been kept in six different hospitals. He further stated that less than 200 of the 1,100 injured are receiving treatment in various hospitals.

Roy stated that the Railways has deployed officials to Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu to locate any missing persons.
