Digital Desk: The 26 parties participating at the key meeting in Bengaluru decided on the name I-N-D-I-A, the Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance, for the united opposition front, setting up a "Modi versus INDIA" contest for the general elections of 2024. Derek O'Brien of the Trinamool Congress tweeted, "Chak de India," with happiness.

On Day 2 of the mega meeting, the name was chosen after much consideration. While some parties weren't too keen on the name "NDA," the Left wanted the word "Alliance" replaced with "Front." sources claimed.

Shiv Sena UBT leader Uddhav Thackeray lobbied for a name that didn't imply opposition.

It was Rahul Gandhi who came up with the name finally, tweeted Jitendra Ahwad of the Nationalist Congress Party. "His creativity was greatly appreciated," his tweet read.

The first day of the meeting yesterday was casual, with discussions followed by dinner. Today's closed-door meeting started at about 11 and is scheduled to last until 4 pm.
