Digital Desk: The hailstorm that pounded multiple portions of Assam's Dibrugarh district on Tuesday damaged around 500 dwellings across villages.
 
Thunderstorms and lightning with hail are extremely likely to occur in isolated locations over Assam and other northeastern states over the next 24 hours, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati.

According to a top official of the Dibrugarh district administration quoted by PTI, the damage assessment is still ongoing and no casualties have been reported.

The hailstorm hit Moran, Tingkhong, Lahowal, Lekai, Naharkatia, and other locations late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

"It has caused severe devastation throughout the district. According to preliminary estimates in the Moran sub-division, "310 dwellings in 37 villages have been damaged," he stated.

According to the official, 202 structures in 21 villages in Tingkhang and five dwellings in two villages in Lekai have been severely damaged.

"One government lower primary school within the Dibrugarh East revenue circle was impacted." "The Nagachapari LP School in Lahowal was severely destroyed," he continued.

A hailstorm hit the neighbouring Tinsukia district's Khetojan Tea Estate on Tuesday morning, but no damage was reported, according to another official.

According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, a violent hailstorm damaged multiple residences in the Moran and Tingkhong revenue circles.

"I have directed officials to do a thorough assessment of the damages." "The government is providing all possible assistance to those affected," he stated on Twitter.

The RMC has issued a 'Yellow Alert' for the whole Northeastern region, predicting thunderstorms and lightning with hail in isolated locations throughout seven states.
