Digital Desk: Padma Shri Dr Ramkuiwangbe Newme, who arrived in Assam's Dima Hasao region on April 8, was welcomed and honoured by the people of the district.

Newme's name was announced for the Padma Shri in 2023, and he got the distinguished award from the President of India in Delhi on April 5.

Dr. Newme arrived in Boro Haflong and paid his respects to the statue of Padma Bhushan Rani Ma Gaidinliu before taking part in a rally prepared for him by members of many groups.

In addition to Newme, Assam's Hemoprava Chutia and Hem Chandra Goswami have been awarded the esteemed Padma Shri Award for the year 2023. 

Speaking with the media Padmashri Newme expressed pride for the people of Dima Hasao and thanked Modi's government for honouring individuals from far-flung parts of Northeast India. He also stated that "youths should step forward to help the cause of society. Their efforts will be recognised as well." 

Hemoprava Chutia (Art) and Hem Chandra Goswami (Art) were chosen for their contributions to the fields of art, social work, and public affairs in Assam.

The President has approved the conferral of 106 Padma Awards for the year 2023, including 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan, and 91 Padma Shri Awards.
