The government order was issued on Friday, May 2, discontinuing all inbound shipment of goods from the neighbouring country.

Digital Desk: In another severe action against Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Government has announced a ban on direct and indirect import of all goods from the country with immediate effect in the interest of national security and public policy.

The government order was issued on Friday, May 2, discontinuing all inbound shipment of goods from the neighbouring country.

As per report, this decision will terminate cross-border trade worth Rs 3,886 crore between India and Pakistan.

The order was issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Commerce Ministry, which stated that the direct or indirect import or transit of goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, whether or not freely importable or otherwise permitted, should be prohibited with immediate effect, until further orders.

The move will now require government approval for any exceptions, as per the official order.

On Saturday morning, India has also suspended all categories of inbound mails and parcels with Pakistan via air and surface routes with immediate effect.

The suspension order was issued by the Department of posts-old, under the Ministry of Communications. It was announced within hours of a ban on imports from Pakistan.

The Pahalgam terror attack led to strong diplomatic and military responses, with India vowing to punish those responsible, including India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and closure of the Wagah-Attari trade route.
