Digital Desk: The Government of Pakistan on Tuesday promoted the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Army, General Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal. Pakistan's local media reported the latest development.

As per media report, the decision was taken at a cabinet meeting, which was chaired by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The Dawn reported that the prime minister's office issued a statement, where it was mentioned that PM Sharif met President Asif Ali Zardari and showed confidence on Asim Munir.

Asim Munir has been Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff since 2022. The Field Marshal is Pakistan's highest military rank.

Field Marshal is responsible for the overall command, control, and administration of the army, signifying extraordinary leadership. He is also the principal military advisor to the Prime Minister and the President of Pakistan on all matters related to national security.

This move comes days after India's Operation Sindoor, which destroyed several terror infrastructures and air bases of Pakistan amid armed conflict between India and Pakistan armed forces.
