Digital Desk: Panic engulfed the devotees of Guwahati's Umananda Temple on Tuesday morning after an adult tiger was spotted straying into the river islet.

According to reports, some devotees spotted the tiger while crossing the Brahmaputra River and recorded it on camera.

However, terrified by the tiger's presence on the island, locals informed forest officials.

Meanwhile, a search operation has been launched to track the tiger and capture him before he causes any harm, sources said.

Reportedly, ferry services have been halted in light of the incident.

At least seven people were injured in a tiger attack in Assam's Cachar district last month. The incident happened in Kalain near the Bhairavpur gram panchayat office.

Notably, there are around 219 tigers in the North East hills and the Brahmaputra Landscape, with Assam having 190 tigers. There are 21 tigers in Orang, 31 in Manas, and 135 in Kaziranga National Park.
