Digital Desk: On the fifth day of the ongoing monsoon session, Congress MPs and representatives from other opposition parties chanted slogans and demonstrated outside of Parliament against growing inflation and the "unreasonable" increase in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates on basic foods. The venerable party repeated its demand for a discussion of important topics in Parliament.

"Opposition MPs continue to voice their opposition to inflation and the excessive GST increases on vital foods. The Congress tweeted from its official account, "We won't stop until the government is compelled to heed to the voice of the people.

The opposition has also urged that the government roll back the 5 percent GST on pre-packaged and labelled food items such cereals, beans, and flour in quantities smaller than 25 kg. The opposition wants the government to raise the issue of price increases and inflation in Parliament.

In both Houses, the Opposition's uproar during the first week of the monsoon session caused commotion and disruption.

Congress leaders from all over the nation protested on Thursday as party leader Sonia Gandhi was called in by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning about the suspected money laundering case involving the National Herald.
