Train services on the vital Lumding-Badarpur hill section continue to experience significant disruptions following persistent track instability at New Harangajao (NHGJ) station. Railway officials have confirmed that Line 1 and Line 2 at the station remain suspended due to ongoing track settlement, a critical issue affecting the safety and smooth operation of trains.
According to the latest operational bulletin, train movements are currently restricted to Line 3, which is under continuous monitoring to ensure safety. In a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding passengers, the movement of all passenger-carrying trains through the affected stretch has been prohibited between 7:00 PM and 5:00 AM daily until further notice. This restriction aims to mitigate risks associated with nighttime operations on the compromised track.
The prolonged instability has led to a series of cancellations, reschedulings, and regulations across various services. Notable cancellations include the Guwahati-Dullabcherra Express (15617) and its return service, the Dullabcherra-Guwahati Express (15618), along with the Guwahati-Silchar Express (15615) and Silchar-Guwahati Express (15616) on their respective scheduled journey dates. Several other trains, including those connecting Naharlagun, Agartala, Sairang, and Rangiya with different destinations, have also been either rescheduled or regulated, causing considerable inconvenience to commuters across the Northeast region.
Authorities are working to address the underlying issues at New Harangajao, with efforts focused on restoring full operational capacity while prioritising passenger safety. The railway administration has advised passengers to check the latest schedules before planning their journeys.
