Digital Desk: The price of a platform ticket has risen by another Rs 20. On October 2, platform tickets that had previously been available for Rs 10 now cost Rs 20. The tariff has now been raised once more. Now, the platform ticket will cost Rs 50. This rate will be in effect from October 26 to November 6 at 14 stations, including the Lucknow-Varanasi Junction of the Lucknow Division of Northern Railway.

Reportedly, the action was taken to help reduce unwanted crowding at train stations during festivals. However, it is obvious that a platform ticket costs Rs. 50 constitutes a major financial hardship for the average person considering the rising rate of inflation.

On October 2, the price of a platform ticket in the Lucknow Division of the Northern Railway was increased by Rs. 10 at the Lucknow, Varanasi Junction, Barabanki Junction, Ayodhya Cantt, Ayodhya, Akbarpur, Shahganj, Jaunpur Junction, Sultanpur Junction, Rae Bareli, Janghai, Bhadohi, Pratapgarh, and Unnao stations. The cost was raised by Rs. 20 to Rs. 30. It was then stated that the decision would be in effect from October 2 until November 5.

However, the railways changed their mind on October 25. From October 26 to November 6, platform tickets for the 14 stations in the Lucknow division will cost Rs 50.

According to Rekha Sharma, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Lucknow, Northern Railway, platform ticket rates have risen in anticipation of the impending festivities. So that the platform and station are only used by necessary passengers and that overcrowding can also be avoided.
