Digital Desk: Papua New Guinea bestowed the Companion of the Order of Logohu on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, the nation's highest civilian honour, for supporting the cause of Pacific Island unification and pioneering the fight of the Global South. "Papua New Guinea has conferred the Companion of the Order of Logohu on PM Narendra Nodi," the Prime Minister's Office announced in a tweet. Sir Bob Dadae, Governor General of Papua New Guinea, handed it to him."
Meanwhile, Arindam Bagchi, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of External Affairs, stated, "An honour emblematic of the depth of India-Papua New Guinea relationship." Papua New Guinea's Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae awarded PM Modi the country's highest civilian honour, the Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu (GCL)."
The award has only been given to a few non-Papua New Guineans. This occurred just after Fiji bestowed its highest honour on Modi.
"PM Narendra Modi has been conferred the highest honour of Fiji, the Companion of the Order of Fiji," the PMO said in an earlier tweet. PM Sitiveni Rabuka delivered it to him."
The Prime Minister arrived in Papua New Guinea on Sunday after attending the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan.
Modi will go to Sydney after his visit to Papua New Guinea, at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
