Digital Desk: Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organiser of North East Festival and Siddharth Sharma, the manager of singer Zubeen Garg, have been arrested by Assam police from Delhi. On Wednesday morning, they were brought to Guwahati.

Amid tight security arrangements, the prime accused Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma were taken in a bulletproof vehicle to the residence of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Geetanagar, Guwahati.

Assam police brought Shyamkanu Mahanta from Delhi and Siddharth Sharma from Gurgaon and brought them to Guwahati this morning via Air India flight IX 1197 after arresting them.

According to the police, Shyamkanu Mahanta, who had been projecting himself as a person of integrity under the guise of organising various festivals, was hiding in Singapore.

Meanwhile, a lookout notice had already been issued against both Mahanta and Sharma, instructing them to appear at the CID office in Guwahati by October 6.

It is worth mentioning that over the past 12 days, the entire state of Assam has been in uproar, demanding justice for singer Zubeen Garg's death. Everyone has been seeking appropriate punishment for the accused.

Amidst this, the Assam government had entrusted the investigation of Zubeen Garg's death to the Crime Investigation Department (CID).

Initially, there was clarification, followed by specific posts on social media, and finally, both Facebook accounts of Shyamkanu Mahanta disappeared.

On the other hand, manager Siddharth Sharma wrote an open letter via Facebook.

Today, the court remains closed due to the Durga Puja holiday. Therefore, the CJM of Kamrup Metro ordered their remand to 14 days of police custody.

Subsequently, they were transferred to the CID headquarters in Rupnagar, Guwahati, where they are being held in a lock-up and interrogated by CID officials.
