BJP leader and northeastern in-charge Sambit Patra has been holding closed-door meetings with Manipur MLAs in Imphal since Biren Singh’s resignation.


Digital Desk: Amid violent ethnic clashes in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s resi nation has put all the BJP leaders in confusing situations as they are unable to find a new leader in the northeastern state after two days his resignation. Sources said that following this, the president’s rule may be imposed in Manipur.


BJP leader and northeastern in-charge Sambit Patra has been holding closed-door meetings with Manipur MLAs in Imphal since Biren Singh’s resignation. Patra also met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to inform him about the current political scenario of Manipur.


According to reports, Biren Singh decided to resign from his position as several BJP MLAs are preparing to support the no-confidence motion that would be brought to the state assembly by the Congress.


Article 365 of the Constitution says that once President’s rule is imposed in a state, all the functions of the state government will be transferred to the center, while the function of the state legislature to Parliament.


Praising N Biren Singh’s leadership after his resignation, Manipur BJP chief A Sharda Devi said that he worked for the development of Manipur. She added that Biren Singh decided to resign as he wanted to protect the integrity and welfare of the public.
