Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today made a strong case for the use of local languages in courts, arguing that it will boost regular persons' trust in the judicial system and make them feel more connected to it.

He also urged Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Courts to prioritise cases involving undertrial convicts who are languishing in cells and release them in accordance with the law and human sensibilities, claiming that judicial reform is more than simply a policy issue.

Human sensitivities are involved, and they should be kept at the forefront of all discussions, according to Prime Minister Modi.

Every district has a commission led by the district judge to assess these cases and, if feasible, release such convicts on bond, according to the Prime Minister.

"I would appeal to all Chief Justices and Chief Justices of High Courts to prioritise these issues on the basis of humanitarian sensibility and the law," he stated.

Addressing the inaugural session of the joint conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Courts, which is being held after a six-year hiatus, the Prime Minister stated that a group is looking into creating legislation in two formats: one in typical legal language and the other in simple language that ordinary people can understand.

Prime Minister Modi stated that while India celebrates its 75th anniversary of independence, the focus should be on developing a judicial system in which justice is freely accessible, swift, and available to all.

PM Modi stated that the judiciary and the executive have had their duties and responsibilities established during the past 75 years of independence. This relationship has expanded continually to provide guidance to the country, he added, wherever it is required.
