Digital Desk: During the Civil Services Day celebrations at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will confer the Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration.

In the two-day event that began on Wednesday, public administrators will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to five priority programs: (i) promoting ‘Jan Bhagidari’, or people’s participation, in Poshan Abhiyan, (ii) promoting excellence in sports and wellness through ‘Khelo India’ initiative, (iii) digital payments and good governance in PM SVANidhi Yojana, (iv) holistic development through ‘One District One Product’ scheme, (v) seamless, end-to-end delivery of services without human intervention.

As per the Prime Minister's Office, the award recognizes "extraordinary and innovative" work done by districts/implementing units and central/state organizations for the welfare of common citizens. Sixteen awards will be handed out this year.

According to the ministry of personnel, public grievances, and pensions, PM Modi will also release e-books on priority programmes. Apart from this, a film on award winning programmes will be screened.

Traditionally, April 21 is celebrated by the central government as Civil Services Day as a means of calling on the civil servants to renew their commitment to the cause of citizens.
