Digital Desk: On Friday morning, Punjab police arrested Delhi BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga from his Delhi home on charges of uttering provocative statements, fostering religious hatred, and criminal intimidation.
After the Delhi police lodged an abduction case based on a complaint from Bagga's father, the Punjab police team taking him to Mohali was halted by Haryana cops.
Naveen Kumar Jindal, a Delhi BJP spokesperson, alleged in a video statement that approximately 50 policemen stepped into Bagga's Delhi residence at around 8:30 am and arrested him. "He couldn't even wear his turban," he said.
Meanwhile, Bagga's father claimed that the police hit him in the face when he was trying to record a video of the incident. He told the news agency ANI, "Tajinder was taken out of our house by 10-15 police officers this morning. Police moved me to another room and punched me in the face as I picked up my phone to make a video of the incident."
Meanwhile, the Punjab police claimed that a notice was sent to Bagga five times to assist in the investigation, but he deny to do so.
Bagga would be taken to a Punjab court following legal proceedings in Delhi. Reportedly, the cyber unit in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar in Punjab's Mohali district registered the complaint.
Notably, Bagga has been outspoken in his criticism of Arvind Kejriwal on social media. He came to the notice of the AAP, which rules both Delhi and Punjab, for his tweet criticizing Kejriwal over the film "The Kashmir Files."
In a tweet, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Naresh Balyan said Bagga was arrested for allegedly threatening Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
"Punjab police arrested a leader from the party of hooligans, BJP, Tajinder Bagga. He had threatened Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with 'won't let you live'," he tweeted.
Meanwhile, the Delhi police said that the Punjab police did not provide them with any previous arrest information.
BJP IT chief Amit Malviya without mentioning Bagga's arrest, slams Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of utilizing Punjab police to attack political opponents.
"Arvind Kejriwal's brazen misuse of Punjab police to target political opponents is not unexpected. He had been raging for this. But this won't go down well. We will fight to secure every single karyakarta of ours and ensure that Kejriwal learns how to handle power the hard way...," he wrote in a tweet.
Moreover, the BJP officials have criticized the police move, claiming that it violates freedom of speech.
