Police claimed that Parminder Kaur was allegedly consuming alcohol near the "Sarovar" (holy water tank) of the Dukhniwarn Sahib gurdwara.

Digital Desk: A woman was reportedly shot dead for drinking alcohol on a gurdwara's premises. According to Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma, the event occurred on Sunday night.

Police claimed that Parminder Kaur was allegedly consuming alcohol near the "Sarovar" (holy water tank) of the Dukhniwarn Sahib gurdwara.

Nirmaljit Singh, a regular visitor to the Gurdwara, shot the 32-year-old woman multiple times when she was a resident in Urban Estate Phase I.

"Parminder Kaur was drinking alcohol close to Gurdwara Dukhniwarn Sahib's Sarovar. The sangat decided to take her to the manager's office after observing this. But Nirmaljeet Singh Saini, who was present, shot her in a fit of rage," Mr. Sharma added.

An official statement read, "Saini fired five rounds at the woman with his 32-bore licenced revolver."

Despite being taken to a hospital, Ms. Kaur's doctors allegedly declared her dead, according to the police. A man who was harmed in the incident was hospitalised, according to sources. His condition is reportedly steady.

The accused, a real estate broker with no history of criminal behaviour, has reportedly been taken into custody by police.
