Rohit Sharma declared his retirement from T20 Internationals after leading India to their second T20 World Cup victory.

Digital Desk: Following India's magnificent victory over South Africa by 7 runs in the T20 World Cup final on Saturday, a video of Rohit Sharma has gone viral on social media showing him consuming sand.

In a clip shared by the ICC, the Indian captain was seen eating sand from the Barbados pitch where the thrilling summit clash took place between India and South Africa. India clinched their second T20 World Cup title after a 17-year gap, with their previous triumph under MS Dhoni's leadership in 2007.

The match, held at Kensington Oval in Barbados, also marked the end of India's 11-year drought for an ICC trophy under Rohit Sharma's captaincy.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma declared his retirement from T20 Internationals after leading India to their second T20 World Cup victory. His decision follows soon after Virat Kohli, his longtime teammate, also announced retirement post India's commanding win over South Africa in the final.

"This was my final game as well. There couldn't have been a better time to bid farewell. I had a strong desire for this trophy. It's difficult to express in words," Rohit Sharma stated during the post-match press conference.

"This was my dream, and now it has come true. I had a burning desire to achieve this in my career. I'm delighted that we've finally crossed the finish line this time," he added.

Rohit Sharma concludes his T20I career with 4231 runs from 159 matches, including five centuries and 32 half-centuries. He remains active in Test and ODI formats.

Looking forward, Kohli expressed confidence in the next generation of players to elevate India's T20 cricket to new heights.

"It's time for the next generation to take charge. With a two-year cycle until the next T20 World Cup, India boasts incredible talent. They will carry the team forward in T20s, building on their IPL successes," Kohli remarked.

"I'm certain they will uphold the flag and lead this team to greater achievements," he concluded.

In his 125 T20I appearances, Kohli amassed 4188 runs at an impressive average of 48.69, with his unbeaten 122 against Afghanistan in September 2022 being his solitary T20I century.
